Arsalan Kamkar

Arsalan Kamkar, born in 1960 in Sanandaj, Iran, is a celebrated Iranian‑Kurdish musician known for his mastery of violin, oud (barbat), and his sensitive compositional voice.

He began music under the guidance of his father, the master Hassan Kamkar, and performed from a young age in ensembles directed by his father. Later he moved to Tehran to continue studies at the School of Fine Arts.

Arsalan has held prominent roles with the Tehran Symphony Orchestra as a violinist, serving also as concertmaster and soloist. He is a known member of The Kamkars ensemble, blending Kurdish, Persian classical, and folk traditions.

Besides his instrumental skill, he composes music across varied styles, including Persian classical, Kurdish music, and Western classical influences. His contributions deepen both performance and arrangement in the region’s musical culture.
