Ardeshir Kamkar

Ardeshir Kamkar is a highly respected kamanché virtuoso originally from Sanandaj, in Iran’s Kurdistan province. He began learning music under his father and later moved to Tehran in 1980 to deepen his mastery, studying with renowned masters such as Mohammad Reza Lotfi and his brother Pashang Kamkar.

Known for exploring the full expressive range of the kamanché, Ardeshir has composed original works and published instructional materials, helping to expand the instrument’s traditional boundaries.

He has performed with acclaimed ensembles such as Dastan, Aref, and Sheyda, and has collaborated with noted vocalists including Homayoun Shajarian. His international work includes the album From Pontos to Persia, which blends the music of Pontus with Persian kamanché traditions.

As part of The Kamkars musical family, Ardeshir contributes to preserving Kurdish and Persian musical heritage while pushing its boundaries. His artistry reflects a deep cultural foundation and a creative spirit.
